This toy has a great concept: creating traceable images of favorite items. Unfortunately, while the concept is good, the execution is not perfect. As others have noted, this sketch wizard is tricky to set up, and once it’s set up, it is tricky to keep the paper in the proper position (and very frustrating when the paper moves around after you have already started sketching). Also, the images that are projected onto the paper are not very clear. The image may give you a good start towards drawing a particular item, but a lot of the success will be left to the particular sketcher.And that’s where the age recommendation comes into play. A diligent, careful child in the 8-12 year range is likely to enjoy this toy, as lot as that child has a bit of patience and some good fine motor skills. For the right child, that is a recipe for a successful afternoon of art-making. A child with a shorter attention span likely won’t want to put in the effort to get this sketch wizard working and to stick with the process of sketching from fuzzy lines. So, my recommendation is to consider the child before purchasing this item.
